Why Download Software?

Every time I log on I'm given the option to down load the "Custom Software."
Nowhere on the site do I find any information as to why I might want to do this instead of playing online as usual.

Why is there no explanation of this option?

There are multiple benefits to the download over the Java. In the download you can take notes on other players, enable your statistics and you can launch the program from a desktop icon.
