Figure out what it's going to take to get to the final table, or to make $$$.

362 entries in MTT pays top 30. (I'm guesstimating here on payout #)
Starting stack of 1500

362 * 1500 = 543,000 total chips in play

543,000 / 30 = 18,100 will be the average stack to make the money.

543,000 / 10 = 54,300 is the average stack at the final table.

I usually start off a MTT by writing these down so I know when to press, and when to be conservative.

Hope it helps.

This is indeed a good idea if you are in the tourney to just make some money. However, I have found that if I am not playing thinking "I only care about winning", I never get close to it ( well, my best placement ever was 4th, so "getting close to it" is relative :) ), and instead keep struggling all the time. Granted, I usually get to a paying place, or very close to it, but its usually like "falling through the finish line"
