In this week’s Player Spotlight: RagingBull88!

Hello, my name is Eric - although regulars to the Hollywood Poker Tournament lobby probably recognize me as RagingBull88 - a recent newcomer on the scene coming to you from Erlanger, Kentucky (south of Cincinnati, Ohio).

I have been playing Texas Hold’em for about a year now although it was not until about 6 months ago that I played for money for the first time. A group of card playing friends and relatives have a winter get together and I played in a multi-table tourney. While I did not finish well in the multi-table tourney, I bounced back and managed to score my first single table tournament victory the same night.

My profession, (transportation engineer), is one that does not immediately lend itself to helping me play poker but the skill required to design roadways does translate to my poker game. When designing a roadway, I have to analyze data carefully and make correct decisions in order to be both cost and safety effective. Poker is all about correct decisions and I try to take it seriously when I am at the table. It is not always easy when you are playing with such a lively bunch as the Hollywood Poker gang, but it is always more fun. It also helps that I chose my name after a favorite roller coaster of mine because like my namesake, poker is filled with ups and downs, and highs and lows.

I enjoy playing in the tourneys here because they are filled with the right mix of quality skilled players and fresh faced new players eager to learn. You can learn a lot about your game when you get a chance to play against both skill sets. My greatest accomplishment to date is finishing 2nd in the 8/7 $250 Freeroll. Outlasting 617 other players and having a true shot at winning was an experience that not many get to have. I feel that I hit on the right combination of skill and luck that day. Luck is the great equalizer and can bail you out of bad decisions and put you on the rail despite seemingly good decisions. I try to put myself in a position to have luck either help me a lot or damage me as little as possible. That is where the skill comes in to play.

Anyway, I hope to see and say hi to everyone in the tournament lobby and at the tables. Who knows, a heads up battle could be in our futures.
