Hmmmmm....interesting techinque.
Was perusing the WPT website today and noitced several pictures of players at the table sporting their shades.
I, myself, have never done this. Is there actually any benefit in doing this aside from enhancing (or perhaps not enchancing) the 'cool' factor?

Barring some serious medicial problem, I refuse to believe indoor lighting can be that harsh. Still, there may be something I'm missing here....

The eyes can be a tremendous "tell". The glasses simply eliminate this factor.

Ya but you got to watch out your cards can reflect in the glasses and show people wot you got. If you wear your shades make sure you keep your cards down and barely glance at them when you look at them.

One way to avoid the reflection is to wear a Tellytubby outfit, while you are playing. That way nobody can see your eyes or face, so cant read you plus no shades to reflect your cards. :waytogo:

I found I could avoid the sunglasses and teletubby outfits by wearing very low tops. :happy:

As I get older the hot women bother me less. Matter of fact, if I can find a table with a hot woman and a bunch of young guys sitting around I jump at it. Too many distractions for them to even notice why I just check-raised.

I saw someone with a shopping bag over his head. Strange, is'nt it?
Maybe it's a part of the game, or something. I really don't know. :what:

Since I'm almost totally blind, I usually just take my glasses OFF. That way when I look at someone I'm not really focused on them at all and they have a hard time telling what the hell I'm even looking at.

Howard Lederer just wrote about this at "another poker site." His take was while your eyes can give you away, wearing sunglasses inside can also hamper your ability to read other people, specifically, their eyes. For him, he loses more than he gains by wearing sunglasses. For a lot of novices, it's probably beneficial, although when you start to learn about reading people, there are ten million other things that can give you away, so sunglasses are sort of a band-aid on an amputated leg, but even that is better than nothing. I personally don't wear them, because I'm trying to improve my reading ability, but if I were at a table full of people wearing shades, I'd probably pop some on as well.

I wear shades at the table. Not so my eyes are hidden, but so I watch all the action at the table and no one knows where I am looking.....

Greg Raymer last year really made use of the shades! Overall I think that most players don't have the skills or knowledge to pick up on the tells. Sunglasses are just cool...at least the guy wearing them thinks that.

It's not in their eyes...its everything else they do!

I think a lot of players wear sunglasses so they can discreetly watch others at the table, not to hide their own eyes.

i were them about half the time cause my eyes start to hurt from smoke and focusing on the cards.

And I thought I was the only one who knew that trick. :happy:

I'm on the same page as VegasKid... I wear them so I can observe other players and they don't really know I'm watching them... my head always appears as though I'm looking at the board cards... but my eyes can be watching them.

Oh... it's my turn already?

:cool:

Seriously, I tend to agree with Julie. I think more often than not, the shades are to allow the player to watch others without giving themselves away.

I wear mine sometimes because the overhead lights are harsh on the eyes. And besides they have pretty rhinestones on them. I also wear low cut tops
to distract the mens.... :devil: Hehehehe :hpmissspa

i've always liked Po, but perhaps Tinky-Winky would be the more intimidating choice. Don't worry about the casinos not letting you in due to the costume, however some fans may mistake you for Chris Moneymaker and ask for your autograph.

I think it can be a good idea if you are playing against top notch players in a live game. Some of them really can tell a lot from peoples' eyes.

On the other hand...

(This is where my signature quote came from...)

If you're playing at a $1-$2 or $3-$6 limit table at a casino on Thursday afternoon, wearing shades for effect is... ...hilarious. Nobody is trying to "see into your soul" to determine your bluffs in this instance, so the shades are more comic than anything.

I've always felt that wearing shades (for hiding eye tells) shows low-confidence in that players self control. Ever notice how they rip the shades off right after they don't care if the other players see their expressions..? All Ins... Helmuth has to wear them, he's way too emotional. Negraneau, never. Good actors however, can use the tell "lookers" to their advantage and play a monster like they are frightened as acting is natural to them.

GL on the tables to y'all!

I am posting this here because it's from the book called Mind Control System written by Kreskin.

The author unfortunately as kreskin says is lost to posterity therefore koodles are not able to be given but it should be shared just the same.

One that I read daily. Hope you also like it.

If you think you're beaten, you are;
If you think you dare not, you don't;
If you'd like to win, but think, you can't
It's almost a cinch you won't.
If you think you will lose, you're lost;
For out in the world we find,
Success begins with a fellow's will,
It's all in the state of mind.

If you think you're outclassed, you are;
You've got to think high to rise.
You've got to hustle before
You can ever win a prize.
Life's battles don't always go
To the stronger or faster man,
But sooner or later the man who wins
Is the one who thinks he can.

To quote the great Bill Fillmaff

" You must wear sunglasses to keep people from looking into your soul. If you dont wear them then your a dumbazz and might as well just give your money away!"

Well, i never played with sunglasses on a real table, yet ....

And I dont think i ever will ...

If you learn to play with the other players on your table, you can change your reactions on any hand in a way they never think you have a good hand!

So if you have a little training in making reactions to irritate your opponent, you never need any kind of sunglasses!

But itīs a personal thing, some people donīt can make any show on a table cause they havenīt the personality for such kind of play!

So i think thats the guys (and girls) which play with Sunglasses nearly every table!

Best wishes
