My favorite Hollywood Poker tournament was the freeroll that I won. Not just for the satisfaction of beating 250 others, but I took the 10 bucks plus 1 more to the Down the Stretch tournament (my other favorite tourney) where, after getting to the final table I raised all-in with KK over a medium bet from 99 and had a mild stroke when there was a 9 on the flop and I was done like dinner instead of chip leader. So why was I happy about it? The tournament sponsor is Turf’n’Sport and the guy gave me a free Breeder's Cup horseracing report. He picked Shirocco in the 9th race and the nag paid $19.60 to win! I invested the 98 bucks in some beer and almost forgot all about that bad beat. Almost.

My favorite anything, are those things that serve me well in some way. Green shirts make my eyes turn a haunting shade of green, so my favorite color is green. My favorite food is Pizza from Red’s Savoy on 7th Street in St. Paul. The house special is a thin crust combo smothered with generous amounts of cheese, huge chunks of meat, and enough MSG to pucker the most stubborn lips. Also, their gin and tonics are only $2.25. My favorite lawn ornament is the pink flamingo, because they totally crack me up when I see how some people choose to spend their money.
Sometimes my favorite things are things that I hate, don’t really like, or don’t use at all. My favorite President is Bill Clinton, because he is such an obviously cheesy liar, the epitome of what a politician is, and a glaring reminder of everything you never want to be. By the way, the Bush family is running a close second, but I won’t comment because my favorite political policy is to support the current administration no matter who is running it. As a side note, I can’t wait for 2008. My favorite phrase is “I don’t know”, because I never use it, as I have an opinion about everything.
Sometimes, things that used to be my favorite are replaced by new favorites. My favorite lesbian used to be Ellen DeGeneres, until my sister came out of the closet. Oddly enough, that was 2 years before Ellen did. Admit it, we all knew. My favorite lesbian couple used to be Siegfried and Roy, but of course it is now Ellen and Portia de Rossi. I don’t care who you were; no one saw that one coming. My favorite woman used to be my last girlfriend, but now my favorite woman is my wife who, by the way, reads everything I write.
Then there are the newly discovered favorites. I recently discovered Port wine. It tastes like wine, but it’s 40 proof. My new favorite hobby is writing. It’s a heck of a lot cheaper than therapy. Then of course, my new favorite online poker site is Hollywoodpoker.com. It provides me with other outlets besides my need to lose at poker. My favorite tournament at Hollywood Poker is any sit-n-go. They take less than 45 minutes, and I seem to finish in the money better than 40% of the time.
