This is a bad attitude for a number of reasons:
1. Why in hell would you want to discourage someone from bad play? Perhaps because your own play is so bad you cant handle the bad beats?
2. You never know what someone else was thinking, and their thinking could be just mistaken not stupid or bad ( "he bluffed in that situation before, maybe hes bluffing now")
3. Did you conisder chip stack and/or ready cash ... there are times in this game when its right, for long run considerations, to do something that looks stupid in the short run. If you don't know that, then stop pretending to know all their is to know about this game.
4. If some folks want to play longshots, thats their business ... its what keeps casinos rich. Some folks do actually get lucky. Not my stategy, but it has worked for a few.
5. ITS A GAME AFTER ALL.

it seems we are in the company of a freeroll expert!
I certainly have not seen what he is describing on any of the high limit tables, have you?
gosh, suffering bad beats on $5.00 and freeroll tables must be a terrible burden on this poor soul...
give him a wide berth... I think he has been drinking too much.

shwbt you come on here and complain about people "playing wrong" and when I respond you trash me as a "poker god."
I have never claimed any divine status.
I don't even claim to know remotely all there is about playing poker.
I have played enough, however, to know stupid whining when I hear it.
If you really have played for ten years, which I doubt, then you would know the truth of what I said, which is, in a nutshell, THATS POKER, GET OVER IT.
Or maybe, you're on to something no one else has realized ... play "bad" and always win on this site... hmmm
What do you think Heraclitus, shall we give this guys advice a try? He certainly claims to know his stuff ... lets always play bad hands, knowing that here on HP we are guaranteed a suckout - hey, since this is a network, the same must work on pokerroom and the other skins too ... can't wait to clean up with this strategy.
Also cant wait for shwbt's holy book on the correct way to play poker, should give those "wrong" players who limp in alot, like Gus Hansen and Eric Lindgren, a good thrashing.

Seems to be some mis-understandings here....1st your right i have only been playing internet poker for a few months now ...." real table" poker for yrs....
All i was trying to say in my 1st post is the hds that people play on-line is VERY different from what is played in a casino game...Even you have to agree to that...(By the way i play 250 - 500 dollar freezout games at the HardRock in Fort lauderdale.)....I have also played a few sng at Bonner on this site and people play the same type of hds 5,3, 6,2, 7,4, ect ... so no i dont just play the FRs and yes I know the saying on here is ....any two cards...
And your right Skill your not an expert I should not have called you one....
And to put a large sum of money in a site or even at a table without first seeing, playing, watching, that game and or table is just stupid. But hey thats just me and im no expert either..never said i was..
So to sum it up
The 5,2 off suit you see win here...you would not see win at a real table ( unless heads up play ) because in real play people play the %'s to play their hds not the luck of the sux out....

But you still do not get the point shwbt
Why should anyone be "ashamed" of playing a bad hand for a longshot?
If they dont know better, why educate them.
If they do know better, maybe they had a reason.
As for the tightness of your live poker game, why do you insist that that is the only "correct" way to play poker? Any pro will tell you there is no one correct way to play poker, it is all situational.
And as for "no one" playing this way live, well you havent been to Las Vegas lately have you ...
And, since you now reveal your post was based on low limit play, cant you see how that affects people's choices - if you dont like these low limit players taking long shot chances, then, as Heraclitus suggested, play the higher limits - though even there you will often find a rich guy throwing money around on longshots (though not nearly as often as at low limit for obvious reasons)
Finally, imagine you playing Gus Hansen when he reads your preflop raise correctly as AK, stays in w/ 10 7 suited, and beats you because the board never shows anything higher than a 10. You gonna tell Gus he should be ashamed? :roflmao:

so... we are coming to a consensus?
everybody now agrees that online poker has changed the game?
if four people go all-in ahead of me, I may just call with 78s for no other reason than I KNOW that only one or two actually has a hand and in a low stakes game I might snag that pot...
the number of ESPN novices that expect everybody to lay down just because they toss in all their chips is frustrating, indeed.
that said, welcome them as you would a beautiful nympho into your bed... these are the good times for making money... they might kick you out of bed, but they will give you everything they have in the end...;)

Hey Heraclitus, :)
Its one thing to tell the guy to stop being rude to players who make those wonderful long-shot calls, its another to tell him in plain English that the real reason to be nice to those guys is ... that they dont suck out all the time, indeed not even most of the time, not at this site or any other, in fact, they suck out about as often as the probabilities say they should. Which means the smarter player wins MOST of the time ... so the real reason not to "shame" them but rather be nice to them is so they will come back. And keep chasing ...
I think you're giving way too much information to the masses here H :silly:
