I was playing in a qualifying tourney yesterday. The top few players would get tickets for entry into a $100 buy-in game, but the next place payed about $75 cash. I had to ask myself am I better off with a gauranteed $75 cash o with a 25% more valuable ticket that may yeild zip. Do you keep the prize or trade it in for what's behind curtain #1? I told myself that the competition in a $100 buy-in tourney may be a bit tough and that I am probably better off with the cash, but I could not bring myself to lowering my play and even fought out for first place even though the top three places all payed the same.

I think if it was $50 cash vs. $100 ticket there would not have been a question, but I'm not sure if not taking the $75 wasn't the wise choice. I will post an update after I use the ticket and I have the benefit of 20/20 hindsight, but what do you think?

If you were definintely going to play the $100 tournament then of course taking the ticket is the better choice ... I think you have to decide why you played the smaller tourney - if it was with the hope of getting to the big one, well then thats what you gotta try to do - if you just came in cause there wasnt any other game available for the price - well take the money.

PS - most folks just go all in when there is nothing more left to win, unless you gotta personal score to settle or something. :silly:

I promised an update. Hindsight, should have taken the cash and run.

I didn't cash-out from the $100 buy-in game. I think a larger view is needed and after multiple qualifiers and multiple bigger money tourneys, one or two wins would make the big picture much better.
