Three cheers to Roy Rounder, you gotta love his efforts.
But alas, there are many ways to skin a Donkey.
A simple calculating method for knowing your odds;
Outs - Number of cards left in the deck that will improve your hand
Pot Odds - The odds you get when the analyzing the current size of the pot vs your next call.
(Total Outs x 2) + 2
eg Your inside str8 draw has 4 outs, 4x2=8
add 2 for a total of 10. You roughly have a 10% chance of making your hand. Your call should not be more than 10% of what is already in the pot.
(Not 100% accurate, but a good guideline should you need one quickly.)
Other poker odds to be aware of are;
Bet Odds - The odds you get as a result of evaluating the number of callers to a raise. (Go do some reading, poker players are NEVER lazy.)
Implied Odds - The odds you are getting after the assumed result of betting for the remainder of the hand. (Stick with Roy on this one.)
After a short time the following will become second nature;
A pot odds cheat sheet;
Outs / 2 Cards to come / 1 Card to come
21- (4:1) (1.2:1)
20- (5:1) (1.3:1)
15- (9:1) (2.1:1)
14- (1:1) (2.3:1)
13- (1.1:1) (2.5:1)
12- (1.2:1) (2.8:1)
11- (1.4:1) (3.2:1)
10- (1.6:1) (3.6:1)
9- (1.9:1) (4.1:1)
8- (2.2:1) (4.8:1)
7- (2.6:1) (5.6:1)
6- (3.1:1) (6.7:1)
5- (3.9:1) (8.2:1)
4- (5.1:1) (10.5:1)
3- (7:1) (14.3:1)
2- (11:1) (22:1)
1- (22.5:1) (45:1)
