The new law does not make playing poker online, even for money, illegal for US players. Nor does it prohibit sites from offering freerolls to US players. Nor does it prohibit sites from sending money TO US players. There is no legal reason why we US players should not be able to continue playing freerolls and other tournaments that do not require a deposit.
However, the possible decision by HP/Ongame/Bwin to ban US real-money players (as opposed to just their deposits) at some point may well affect the ability of US players to enter Freerolls on this site, which usually require a real money account to participate in.
So HP, I agree, a definitive statement by you guys would be helpful here.

I have the same concern. Also the CHPFR tickets that I earned for Nov 13,14,15,17. If I'm shutdown on the 13th, then what happens to those. I played the games, got the rake credit and prob will not be able to play in the FR. MAKES NO SENSE TO ME but I can't seem to get any other answer. The ban was not on me playing poker, it was on moving my money to HP. I should still be able to play in these FR's since I "did the time".

I don't think they will reply. If they DO change networks (the seeming best solution to keep USA celebs and players), then all will be able to play everything. If they do NOT then they will likely just cut off all USA players from everything.
The reason for that is not that it is required by the law, as Skallagrim has marvelously stated in his many helpful legal posts, it is NOT necessary for them to block players by the law, just block the wrong avenues of financing.
So there is MORE to this story than we are getting.
The most logical speculation about this that I've read is that sites which are over-reacting are ones that have strong USA ties with their owners, corp execs, and even employees IN the USA, and they are worried about THOSE getting arrested or in trouble.
Hence what seems to us to be an unnecessary action not required by the law, actually indicates other things going on. What they SHOULD do is just move everything off-shore completely, and find a new network and then never have to be concerned about what USA short-sighted laws say!

As it stands currently. All US players will only be allowed to participate in PLAY money games and tournaments. This also means that US players will not be able to enter a freeroll as well.
My apologies and we will try to keep you informed as things may change at any point.

Thanks Don for clearing this up, although your use of the phrase "as things stand now" leads me to have a slight hope that things can change.
I feel that barring me from playing freerolls too (a decision not required by the law), especially the Stars and ClubHP freerolls that I EARNED, is like kicking me in the a** on my way out the door, it really spoils what was otherwise a good time.
I will remember that when this new law is changed or when other methods to allow US play become a reality and I contemplate whether or not to return.

This site sucks anyway. FTP loves the US players.

TC, I understand your frustration, but as annoying the new law is, it does not provide for the restrictions that are being imposed on this site. As a matter of fact, there is a case that the restrictions we are subject to here may be in violation of International Trade law.

Obviously Hollywood Poker no longer needs the money that US players so generously deposited; they are very self-sufficient...
