View Full Version : Question About the Private Messages

My confirmations, or "read-receipts" have never worked... The little pop-up window when both sending and receiving messages has always just been an annoyance to me, since it seemed to do nothing, regardless of which I opt for: yes or no.

I never would have thought much about it - just wrote it off as a part of the software that didnt function right, till I was told tonight that it DOES work - just not for ME.

Apparently, the little icons of the envelopes to the left of each message change once the message has been read?

Mine don't.

All I see is a small, grey closed envelope, no matter what.

I looked for a setting in options that might be controlling it, but couldn't find one.

What can be the problem?

Who cares? When I send a personal message, I don't care if they read it or not. Most of what I have to say wouldn't fill the inside of a matchbook cover anyway. There's bigger things in the world to worry about. Like, I have to stop from rolling my chair back over my cats tail when I lose a hand.

there is a seperate area to look and see if it has been read. Just go look around in your private message box you will find it.

If you check under tracking in your private message screen it will tell you if and when it was read. However, sometimes it does...sometimes it doesn't Lol. I've been meaning to refresh the screen when it says hasn't been read yet I know it has been because a reply came back. This might be a job for super mod Patricia or manager Mike to get those teckies at work. NO WEEKENDS OFF HPers...;)

Well DM told me that his envelope icons change to indicate which messages have been read, and which have not. Mine always remain the same...

I was hoping there was a way to fix it. It would actually be very nice to know if your mail had been read or not...

Hey Angel,
I'm not sure right off what is going on, I will check with Dan and let you know on Monday.

Go to your UserCP and scrol down to private messages and click on Track Messages. It will show all the messages, when they were sent, and when they were read, if they were read. hehehe. I never get any personal messages, but I know where to find them.

What I'm saying is, it is possible to look at your outgoing, or sent message list, and by the icon to its left, know whether a message has been opened. It's possible, but not working on my account.

Hey Angel,
I am looking into this one and will let you know once I do some tests and figure it out.

the envelope doesn't show opened on mine either Angel. But if i send a request then I can go to tracking messages and it shows it's been open as well it say there are so many confirmed and unconfirmed messages.

In tests I have done I don't show the envelope open either. I am still trying to figure this one out but just know that it is not just you Angel.

I think you are right Patricia...I was looking at my in folders...where they show more, replied to, not opened. My sent DO now that I look at them all appear closed....but also, yes Rosie...the tracking of them is is what I was using, the clickable link that shows all confirmed and unconfirmed. I think I got Angel mixed up on this one. sorry

Okay good. I was wondering why I (with the help of Dan) couldn't figure this one out.

So all is good now?

Thanks Patricia.. I have it sorted out now.

The thing is, it would be nice if you could make the envelope icons reflect the status of sent mail... maybe one of your creative geniuses could look into it...?

Thanks for all your help.

I will pass the request on to my resident genius Dan ;)
